Meet The Blue Crew

Get to know our local wheelchair basketball team!

The “Blue Crew” or “Salt Lake Rec’N Crew” is an organized wheelchair basketball team for junior players ages 8-18. The team has been organized since 2008 and has had a lot of success. In 2011, the team ranked as high as 3rd in the Nation. Last season, at the National Tournament, they ended 9th in the Nation. In the coming year, the team is slated to climb higher than ever before with a strong team led by 6 High School Seniors.

Practices are held 3 times a week with some practices being held at Copper View Recreation Center in Salt Lake City and some at the Clearfield Aquatic Center. This is a great opportunity for young athletes to socialize together and learn advanced skills in wheelchair basketball. The team is coed and is scheduled to travel all over the United States: participating in approximately 6 tournaments from November to April.

A local tournament, called the “Turkey Shootout”, is scheduled for November 22-24th at the Clearfield Aquatic Center. This will be the only opportunity to see the team locally; but, the public is always welcome to watch practices too.

Many of the players have Spina Bifida and have met many new friends from their travels and completions across the United States. This is a fun way to build strength and socialize with others. Four former athletes from our team have gone on to receive scholarships and play at the college level; and several from this year’s senior class have already accepted scholarships for next year.
