Connect with U of U TRAILS – adaptive sports

The University of Utah’s Rehabilitation Center outreach program known as TRAILS continues to host adaptive recreational activities for many with Spina Bifida. TRAILS stands for Therapeutic Recreation And Independent Lifestyles. Their mission is “to promote health and active lifestyles for individuals with spinal cord injury or disease through the educational, social, and psychological components of recreation.”

Wheelchair tennis typically occurs every Monday evening at the Liberty Park Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. Coming up in September, TRAILS co-hosts a softball game. Here is the email message:

The Salt Lake Rec Department in conjunction with TRAILS TRAIL Trek is sponsoring a softball game on Friday September 10th at the new accessible ball field at Veterans Memorial Park in West Jordan. The ball field is a unique field designed for people in wheelchairs. The surface is a hard rubber and great for rolling on. We want participants of all levels, quads to para’s, electric wheelchairs to walkers, to come and play. Definitely the whole family is invited. The more the better which will allow us to mix and match teams. Afterwards we are going to have a barbeque and share stories of how great of ball players we are.

When:   Friday September 10, 2010; 4:00 PM till dark
Where:  Veterans Memorial Ball Field; Gene Fulmer Recreation Center, 8015 South 2200 West, West Jordan, Utah 84088
